The bike ride 2018-03-12T10:38:48+00:00

The Dambusters were members of the RAF’s 617 Squadron who were specially assembled in March 1943 to bomb three dams in Germany’s industrial heartland, the Ruhr Valley, just two months later. The raid, on the night of May 16/17, was called Operation Chastise and involved 133 aircrew flying 19 specially adapted Lancaster bombers.

To commemorate the 75th anniversary of the famous Dambusters raid, the April Fools Club is inviting 19 crews of seven cyclists to join them as they undertake an epic challenge: to cycle from RAF Scampton in Lincolnshire, to the Mohne Dam in Germany.

The April Fools Club is aiming to raise over £400,000 during the course of the next 12 months. The cycle ride to the Mohne Dam, and other selected events will be taking place in order to enable us to achieve our target. The proceeds from the ride and from the other events will be directed to extending and improving the facilities at Princess Marina House in Rustington, West Sussex, which provides respite care for former and serving RAF personnel.

With five days and 282 miles of cycling, unforgettable experiences and camaraderie in abundance, the event will not only honour a seminal moment in history but also help raise money to repay the ‘debt we owe’ to our Air Force for nearly 100 years of service.

The cycle ride is an opportunity to build awareness for your brand among business leaders, other organisations, and celebrities. We offer a wide range of sponsorship opportunities to suit your needs. I encourage you to review the enclosed details and respond quickly, as we expect to sell out quickly. On behalf of both the April Fools Club and RAF Benevolent Fund, I hope you’ll choose to partner with us for what’s shaping up to be a an unforgettable trip, to remember the heroic actions of 75 years ago and to help those in need today.

On arrival in Hull, we will enjoy a meal before embarking on the overnight ferry to Rotterdam.

Day 2

The second day sees us set off bright and early on our biggest day of the trip – 92 miles from Rotterdam to Uden. Working out way across the flats of Holland we finish the day in Uden
